The Peppol ID is a unique combination of numbers, just like your telephone number in the telecom network. It consists of a scheme ID (country code) and participant ID (organization number).
In Belgium, the KBO number is used as primary participant ID, in the Netherlands the KVK number or VAT number is used.
You need to register your Peppol ID to be able to receive incoming documents via the Peppol Network.

A Peppol Access Point is your gateway to the Peppol network.
It is usually a service that you purchase from a service provider, such as Dokapi (a certified Peppol Service Provider). Through the network, organizations can send and receive electronic documents, such as e-invoices, in a standardized format.
A participant is a company that uses the Peppol network to send and/or receive documents.
A participant is identified in the Peppol Network by its peppol ID.
